Brake Booster Check Valve Replacement

GM Part #1802-2219

If you hear either a strange "honking" sound or a duck sound from your engine compartment, then there is a good chance that your brake booster check valve is the culprit. It's time to replace it.

Step 1: Locate the old brake booster check valve behind the brake fluid reservoir.

Step 2: Undo the metal clamp at the check valve end, then twist and pull the old check valve out of its grommet. Remove the old grommet from the brake booster disc. Twist and pull the old check valve from the attaching rubber hose.

Here is a picture of the new check valve. It looks different from the old check valve.

Top 3/4 view of both check valves, with the old one on the left and the new one on the right. The new check valve is slightly smaller and doesn't look as nice and "aerodynamic" as the old check valve.

Step 3: Press the new grommet into the hole on the brake booster disc. Push the new check valve into the connecting hose, and press the valve into its grommet.

Step 4: Slide and position the metal clamp back over the new valve's barbed end.
